Pets |
I adore all animals, but am especially passionate about dogs and rabbits. My pets are always rescues. I'm a sucker for the animals nobody wants, which is why I have big black dogs (one stars in "Maggie's Second Chance: A Gentle Dog's Rescue") and red-eyed New Zealand white rabbits (one stars in my upcoming book "The Forgotten Rabbit"). Many of my pets are special needs: paralyzed, epileptic, blind, hip dysplasia, and tripod.
I've been speaking up for animals since I learned to talk, and I haven't shut up yet! With every second of my spare time, I give back to animals who await a forever home. I volunteer with three local humane societies, where I walk big energetic dogs, help with rabbit rescue cases, write/edit newsletters, and take part in adoption/fundraising events.
I'm also a volunteer with the Upstate NY branch of the House Rabbit Society, where I rescue, Bunderground, and foster rabbits until they find their "furever" homes. I've had the pleasure of rehoming dozens of rabbits. The biggest rescue was 28 New Zealand white rabbits from the former Catskill Game Farm, who I won at auction (bidding against a butcher).
To help stamp out pet overpopulation, alter your animals. As my tagline says: Think it's tough putting on a condom? Try doing it with paws and claws! Please spay/neuter your pet.
